about
i'm lucky to have been raised by a mom who practiced mindful parenting long before there was a word for it. i was homeschooled/unschooled for most of my childhood and had a level of autonomy and freedom that i'm so grateful for. i got to witness firsthand--in both myself and my 5 siblings--that when adults treat kids the way we want them to treat us, magic can happen.
from the very first days of bringing my twin boys home, i made up songs for them. sometimes silly, sometimes serious, but always sweet (and usually very catchy). as they entered toddlerhood i noticed that the songs were becoming very effective learning tools and helping to support the skills i was trying to teach them, especially around emotional regulation & intelligence, empathy, and boundaries. i started to catch them repeating the lyrics to themselves when they thought i wasn't watching and hearing the way that the songs were becoming part of their own inner narrative made me realize that i was onto something.
at the same time, i struggled to find children's media that wasn't overstimulating, overly saccharine, and oversaturated. i was raised on raffi and woody guthrie and found the world of baby shark and peppa the pig overwhelming to my nervous system.
so i decided to start sharing my songs & strategies to support caretakers in developing mindful parenting skills, meaningful communication strategies, and joyful, playful relationships with kids based on mutual respect & trust.
