5 mantra songs for hard parenting moments

i’ve found mantra songs to be SO helpful in my parenting. when i’m frazzled and overwhelmed, having a little song i can sing to myself that interrupts a pattern in the moment is so helpful for keeping my cool so i don't yell at my kids.

but what is a mantra song? here's how i define them:

they're songs that cover a difficult emotional experience and offer words to help you ride out the moment with grace. while the entire song may be much longer than what you would actually use as a mantra, they contain at least one line that stands on its own to remind you of the entirety of the rest of the concept so it's like a shortcut for your brain.

so for example, when i find myself on the edge of an anxiety spiral,

i remind myself that "worrying has never changed a thing."

when i’m on the verge of completely losing it, repeating “all i can do is the best i can do” a few times while tapping my heart never fails to bring me back from the brink.

and when i do mess up and yell, “i make mistakes too” is there for when i’m ready to repair. it also intentionally opens with humming which is a really great way to quickly calm your body: if you’re able to catch yourself before you break, sometimes you don’t even need to say the words to remind your nervous system of what it needs to hear!

each of these songs can also be shared with kiddos and i think it’s SO helpful to model for them how we use our own tools and coping strategies to handle our big feelings and navigate hard moments.

i hope these songs are helpful in staying grounded and showing up as the parent & person you want to be <3
